A brand‑new recording celebrating 20 years of Loon Lake Live music‑making...

And we need your help!

Twenty summers ago (!!) we gathered in a historic camp house on Loon Lake, hit record, and made our first recording featuring John Winn's compositions and arrangements for strings, harp, clarinet, saxophone, and vocalist.

Now three of those original musicians—and the same awesome engineer—are reuniting in a Richmond studio to bring you (wonderful) new works by John Winn and genre‑blurring banjoist/composer Adam Larrabee.

WHAT WE'RE RECORDING:

  • Party Hopping (2024) string trio by John Winn

  • The More Things Change (2011) string quartet by John Winn

  • Pirate Suite: Seven Songs from the "C" (2020/2024) septet for strings, banjo, clarinet, and percussion by Adam Larrabee

WHEN WE'RE RECORDING:

We'll be in the studio Sun 6/8 – Fri 6/13... (lucky 13!!)

Perhaps there will be some behind‑the‑scenes photos, short takes, and maybe the odd banjo joke! Only time will tell.

MEET THE COMPOSERS 🎙️

"The piece that I wrote for the Loon Lake Group is called Seven Songs from the Sea, and it's a suite of pieces all based on the C major scale on every mode over the C major scale, but with a swashbuckling sort of pirate theme!"

Adam Larrabee

So I ended up kind of having a drinking theme with this piece, "Party Hopping", and the Waltz starts it, in an ABA song form. And this theme kind of takes us to each of the drinks that we sample as we hop from party to party...!

HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT THIS ALBUM

Please consider helping us fund the engineering and mastering costs for this recording, and throw us some support for the upcoming series if you haven’t already!

Every dollar helps, and no gift is too large either… ;)  Donations of $200 and higher will receive the brand new recording plus a signed note from all of us.

WHY IT MATTERS

  • Second ever LLL studio release — following 2005’s beloved Around the Campfire. We want you to be able to listen to more of our music any and everywhere!

  • Reunion of the OG crew — 3 original performers + the original engineer... with 20 more years of music-making under our belts!

  • Fresh, living repertoire now preserved... what more could we ask for!

RELEASE

Once it's mastered and 'ready for prime time', this recording will be available as an EP and as individual tracks for download or streaming.

THROWBACK CORNER

Here are a few of the photos from the 2005 session which we did in a historic home in Loon Lake.  Fun tidbit: It's called "Balsam" and is where Irving Berlin once stayed.  We recorded in the same Great Room where he likely once played piano and relaxed on vacation during the posh resort heyday years of Loon Lake!

We can't do this without you!

Be a part of bringing this album into your hands/earbuds.
